Fine Tune Your Figure with Liposuction

Body contouring and fat removal are among the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures performed. If diet and exercise have failed to remove your stubborn bulges, liposuction from a board-certified plastic surgeon may help you achieve the results you desire.

Liposuction can be performed on a wide variety of body locations, including the abdomen, thighs, hips, arms, chin and love handles. Liposuction isn’t a weight reduction technique. However, it can change your figure dramatically.

So how does liposuction get the fat out?

During liposuction, the area of your body that is going to be treated is injected with fluid to make it easier to sculpt tissue and remove fat. Anesthesia also is injected to minimize discomfort. Multiple small incisions are made to access the fat cells beneath the skin. To reduce scar visibility, incisions are placed in the natural skin folds. Targeted fat cells are removed through a small hollow tube inserted into the incisions. Over time, your skin retracts to provide a smooth contour.

As you consider liposuction, it is important to understand that liposuction is not a cure-all for weight problems.

The best candidates for liposuction are people with normal or near-normal weight who want to lose those last 10 pounds and smooth away bulges without major surgery. People with skin that is elastic and doesn’t hang also achieve better results with liposuction. Often, younger candidates react more positively to the procedure.

If you feel liposuction could help you achieve the results you desire, consult with a plastic surgeon to see if you are a candidate for liposuction and learn about the cosmetic surgery options available to you.
